The Japan Parliamentarians Federation for Population (JPFP) has consistently contributed to policy-making both domestically and internationally through its ongoing efforts in the field of population and development. In 2025, as the Government of Japan conducted its third Voluntary National Review (VNR) on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) -the first in four years-JPFP and its longstanding activities were formally included in the government report. This marked an official recognition of the pioneering and continuous efforts of Japanese parliamentarians on population and development issues.

"The Japan Parliamentarians Federation for Population (JPFP) is an all-party parliamentary caucus with a very long history, established in 1974. ... Notably, JPFP played a significant role in forming the concept of 'sustainable development'. The establishment of the World Commission on Environment and Development (WCED), which was instrumental in forming the concept of 'sustainable development' foundational to the SDGs, was proposed by members of JPFP through the Japanese government and established through Japan's contribution. Additionally, in collaboration with parliamentarians through global networks of parliamentarians in Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as experts, international organizations, and civil society, JPFP advocates for the importance of population issues, shares mutual experiences, and engages in discussions towards related legislation and policy formation, thereby motivating concrete actions to address challenges. The report was approved at the 16th Meeting of the SDGs Promotion Headquarters (Chaired by Prime Minister H.E. Ishiba Shigeru) held on 10 June 2025, and was presented at the UN High-Level Political Forum (HLPF) held in July 2025.
