In July, JPFP Secretary General Hon. Hitoshi Kikawada visited the International Planned Parenthood Federation (IPPF) London Office and met with Director-General Dr. Alvaro Bermejo. IPPF is a global healthcare provider and a leading advocate of sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) for all. Today, IPPF is a movement of 120 autonomous members with a presence in over 140 countries.

JPFP and IPPF have close ties. Hon. Shidzue Kato, Japan’s first woman parliamentarian and a pioneer of the family planning movement, was one of the founding members of IPPF (established in 1952), as well as one of the founding members of JPFP (established in 1974). IPPF has also supported the activities of APDA/JPFP for years.

Furthermore, APDA, IPPF, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), JOICFP, and Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development (AFPPD) formed an alliance called “Alliance on SDGs, Human Security, and Population” in 2020 and have since been working in close partnership.
