APDA sends Japanese parliamentarians (JPFP members) to an Asian country to observe local field projects implemented by UNFPA, the Japanese Government and other international organizations, so that Japanese parliamentarians can observe first-hand the impact that Japanese-funded programmes make and the challenges that they face. Another important objective of this programme is to activate parliamentary activities on population and development in a visiting country by promoting cooperative relationships between Japanese parliamentarians and Asian counterparts. Considering the fact that parliamentary activities on population issues began in Japan, Japanese parliamentarians may be able to offer practical tools to advance ICPD PoA and MDGs.
In selecting countries for the study visit, APDA prioritizes countries where the attainment of MDGs is still beyond reach and require adequate measures in areas such as population issues, safe water, poverty, HIV/AIDS and reproductive health.
